Pigs REALITY CHECK
Breeding pigs are imprisoned their entire lives in steel barred cages barely larger than their own bodies. They can't even turn around and are often chained in place, preventing them from taking a single backward or forward step. At best, these pigs might manage to stand upright and then collapse onto their stomachs.
Young pigs, being fattened for the food market, spend 3–6 months in a crowded cage, stepping on and injuring each other. Out of boredom and frustration, they typically develop aggressive behaviors, or they give in to total passivity — learned helplessness — like the battered human victims of violence and abuse.
