MY BAT MITZVAH PROJECT Letter from Michelle Oberman (USA)

My name is Michelle and I recently sent a donation to CHAI in honor of my Bat Mitzvah. I have been vegetarian for a year and a half and I am interested in animal rights. I don't think humans are in any way superior to animals and I wish humans and animals could live side by side in harmony.
Animal abuse saddens me as animals can't speak out and voice their pain or need for help. I have many of my own companion animals including an 18-year-old dog, Woof, 2 cats, Petra and Trouble, 2 rabbits, Foo-Foo and Joey, and 3 goldfish. My family also fosters animals for various animal rescues including kittens, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, and rabbits.
Horses are my real passion. I have been riding for a little over 4 years and I volunteer at my barn, where I help with exercising, feeding, grooming, and caring for the lesson horses. The picture is of me with Dr. Ted, a thoroughbred off the track, whom I ride. Riding Ted has shown me the countless negative effects racing has on these wonderful animals and has made me even more supportive of your campaign against horse racing.
